Many Marvel fans have been asking themselves what awaits Steven Strange in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme has only appeared in three Marvel Cinematic Universe films so far. And, two of those were Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). He spent most of Endgame snapped into dust by Thanos (Josh Brolin).

Besides Doctor Strange’s debut film and the Disney+ original series WandaVision, Marvel Studios has not shown us much of what magic looks like in the MCU so many may not know what to expect in the film. And it’s vital to catch up before the end of Phase 4 since Multiverse of Madness is going to launch Marvel into its next grand saga.

But, there is definitely more to the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness plot than Mordo’s quest to destroy every sorcerer. The Sorcerer Supreme’s story is picking up where Loki and WandaVision left off as time branches off into alternate timelines creating the Marvel multiverse.

The trailer revealed Marvel fans can expect cameos from Marvel Studio’s first animated series What If…? including the evil Doctor Strange, Doctor Strange Supreme. Rumors also suggest Captain Carter could show up and the Marvel movie was delayed to include more cameos.

Another name that has been tossed around is the long-rumored, but never appearing, Mephisto. Mephisto is Marvel Comics equivalent of Satan and after he failed to show in WandaVision, fans have been joking that he could show up at any point even in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Just another way that superheroes and society interact through memes.

It could even be some of the stranger demons in the Marvel Universe like Shuma Gorath or Chthon who have deep connections to Wanda and her role as a Nexus being. Shuma Gorath was seen in the trailer but thanks to some copyright issues and toy leaks, we know he will be going by Gargantos.

I never ‘got’ how or why this dude became a bona fide movie star. Good actor: yep. Nice bloke: undeniably so. But actual box office attraction / pin up /action hero? Blimey. If he can be one, imho, anyone could have shared that status. Alan Ruck could have been Batman at that rate! That said? Women LOVE Benedict. And whether by fate or otherwise, he has been crowned a Marvel super-hero, in place of Downey’s Tony Stark. So yes, despite my obvious reservations, Cumberbatch owns this success.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is certainly one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most ambitious and most anticipated projects yet. Not only is it a sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange but, it will also tie in with the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home and WandaVision.

Alongside the returning cast from the first Doctor Strange film, the sequel will feature Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff in a key role and introduce America Chavez (played by Xochitl Gomez) to the MCU. There are even rumors that Wanda will be the antagonist of the movie.

Doctor Strange 2 also sees Sam Raimi return to the director’s chair for another superhero movie after the divisive Spider-Man 3, and we’ll see the first glimpse of his modern superhero work in said trailer.

Raimi recently spoke with Collider about returning to superhero movies after Spider-Man 3:

In the highly anticipated Multiverse of Madness, Deadpool is rumored to have a cameo together with other X-Men comic book characters and other comic book heroes in another dimension.

Kevin Feige also confirmed Deadpool’s future in the MCU:

“It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”

According to rumors, the film did some reshoots in November 2021 that added more scenes and characters like Reynolds and John Krasinki’s Reed Richards.

What makes this rumor very interesting, is that if you google the film’s cast; Ryan Reynolds is one of them. This totally makes sense with Disney now having the rights for the Deadpool franchise. So we will see him for sure.

Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness will be in theaters on May 6, 2022.

Deadpool is a standalone movie starred by Ryan Reynolds and the rights for the franchise was owned by 20th Century Fox. This caused Deadpool's interaction very limited only to heroes owned by the company. However, in 2019, Disney officially bought 20th Century Fox, and the rights for Deadpool were officially handed to Disney.

With "WandaVision" wrapped up and directly leading into the "Doctor Strange" sequel, Marvel fans are getting pretty hyped for the next installment of the Master of the Mystic Arts.

"Doctor Strange in the Madness of the Multiverse" promises to crank up the first movie's mind-bending and magical mayhem with the inclusion of Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch and, you guessed it, the multiverse.

We've trawled through everywhere we can find about "Doctor Strange 2," including the movie's release date, directorial changes, casting announcements, and potential teases about major plot points and character reveals.

It was first rescheduled to November 21, but the date changed again — this time because Sony pushed up the release date of "Spider-Man: No Way Home" to move into this slot.

"Doctor Strange 2" now has a US release date of March 25, 2022, which would make it the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie of next year.

All of those movies have 2021 release dates, while "WandaVision" has already kicked off phase four. There are a whole host of other TV shows joining the MCU's inaugural series in this phase, too, including this year's "Loki" and "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier." Raimi is known for a distinct visual style, which has been described as a comic strip come to life, with several shots mirroring comic book panels. That bodes well for his next stint as a director of a superhero movie.

Following the first Doctor Strange film in 2016, the upcoming MCU project will focus on the mysterious neurosurgeon and master of the mystic arts after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The synopsis reportedly reads that Doctor Strange will be continuing his research on the Time Stone but will be disrupted when "an old-friend-turned enemy puts an end to his plans" and prompts the Avenger to "unleash unspeakable evil."

The good news is that fans can still look forward to many other shows and films coming out of the MCU in the meantime. Most immediately, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series premieres March 19 on Disney+, followed by the release of the movie Black Widow on May 7 and the Loki show on June 11. Other releases include:

Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is a genius, rich neurosurgeon with an ego that could rival Tony Stark’s. He moves through the world with little regard for the people around him. After being distracted looking at medical documents while driving (he may be smart but his ego makes him think he’s invulnerable), Strange gets into a brutal car accident that wrecks his hands. His scarred, trembling hands are a constant reminder of the man he once was and never will be again.

This doesn’t make Strange rethink the way he lives. Instead, as one surgery after another fails, he becomes crueler and more withdrawn, even lashing out at ex-lover/co-worker Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), who is the last person on whom he can depend; his world of medicine and science has failed him. But after receiving a tip from Jonathon Pangborn (a charismatic, underutilized Benjamin Bratt), Strange finds himself under the tutelage of The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) in Nepal, who opens him up to worlds he never believed existed. The visual landscape of their first encounter is the film at its most daring. We’re privy to worlds full of neon purples, cerulean blues and blood reds. We watch Strange become enveloped by hundreds of hands as if out of a nightmare. He bounces between dimensions that resemble the dark beauty of outer space to those that are a kaleidoscope of colors. Even a man as arrogant as Strange can’t deny what he’s been shown.

There isn’t much tension in his arc. While he struggles briefly at first to keep up with other students The Ancient One has taken under her care, he’s soon stealing sacred books out from under Wong (Benedict Wong), the sharp-eyed master who protects the texts at The Ancient One’s behest. Strange plays by his own rules, growing far beyond the skills of those around him. He even goes as far as bending time, secretly reading from forbidden texts and wielding the Eye of Agamotto. When Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) remarks that Strange seems destined for this, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. Of course he was.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness seems to pick up after No Way Home, but if Strange doesn’t know who Peter Parker is, will he even understand why he helped screw up the multiverse in the first place? It’s one of many questions only the movie can answer. But until then, here’s everything you should know about the Doctor Strange 2 cast, plot, and that shocking first look.

Doctor Strange 2 Cast

In addition to Benedict Cumberbatch returning as the titular sorcerer, the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness cast will include familiar faces from the first film, like Rachel McAdams (Christine Palmer), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Mordo), and Benedict Wong (Wong). It will also add Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff) to the mystical fold and introduce Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez. Per Inverse, the young hero can travel through different dimensions, making her a fitting addition to whatever multiversal mayhem is going on here.

Behind the scenes, the MCU’s next film is helmed by director Sam Raimi (of the original, early-aughts Spider-Man trilogy) and co-writers Michael Waldron (head writer of Loki) and Jade Bartlett.

Doctor Strange 2 Plot

The plot of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is still shrouded in mystery, though the new teaser (more on that later) definitely provides a glimpse at a scarier side of the MCU. Though this is definitely a sequel to Doctor Strange first and foremost, it will also continue the story set forth in WandaVision.

“I really worked with [Olsen] and made sure, ‘OK, you guys just did this incredibly intimate show about this character that grew her so much,” Waldron told Collider in June. “‘Let's make sure that we're doing that justice and telling a fulfilling next chapter of that story.’”

Doctor Strange 2 Trailer

For a week, the only way to catch the first glimpse of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was to buy a ticket to Spider-Man: No Way Home, where a teaser appeared as the second (and final) post-credits scene. Fortunately, the real thing — no smartphone bootleg needed — was finally uploaded to YouTube on Dec. 22.

The brief teaser sees Strange enter a shadowy, fractured world. He’s warned that his “desecration of reality won’t go unpunished,” a follow-up to the foreboding warning Mordo issued in the first Doctor Strange. At one point, we see Christine Palmer in a wedding dress. Strange approaches Wanda doing some gardening (hey, she’s been stressed out lately!) but assures her that he’s not there to discuss Westview. Rather, he’s asking for her help dealing with what must be a pretty grave (and mystical) threat which appears to be Strange himself. Maybe it’s more variant business?

Doctor Strange 2 Release Date

Though Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was originally set to premiere this March, its release date was recently pushed back — along with the entire slate of upcoming MCU films. You can now plan to watch the sequel on May 6.

This post will be updated with additional plot details as more information on Doctor Strange 2 becomes available.

The teaser came out shortly after the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which saw the Sorcerer Supreme try to help Peter Parker (Tom Holland) tweak reality after his identity was blown – with disastrous consequences.

The Doctor Strange sequel will mark the return of several actors in the cast, including Rachel McAdams as Dr Christine Palmer, Chiwetel Ejiofor Karl Mordo and of course, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, following her transformation into the Scarlet Witch in WandaVision.

The trailer has left MCU aficionados with lots to unravel, such as the fact that an evil Doctor Strange may be making a foreboding appearance.

In the first film, it’s revealed that one of Stephen’s watches features an inscription on the back from Christine, which reads: ‘Time will tell how much I love you, Christine.’

We dread to think how Stephen’s dabbling with time may have impacted his reality, including his relationship with Christine.

This draws parallels to Agatha Harkness’s (Kathryn Hahn) hands going black in WandaVision, when she was trying to control Wanda into handing over her power.

The WandaVision finale ended with an intriguing post-credits scene, where Wanda heard her sons Billy (Julian Hilliard) and Tommy (Jett Klyne) calling for her, possibly from another plane or dimension.

Dr. Strange gets help from another sorcerer, Wanda

Then we find Strange seeking out Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) to find out more about the multiverse.

Wanda, last seen in the Disney+ Hotstar show WandaVision, is repentant about what she did with the people in Westview (watch WandaVision to get the reference) and agrees to help Strange.

So, we will finally see two of the greatest sorcerers in MCU teaming up in this movie.

Expectation

Will Loki appear too? Marvel doesn't reveal it just yet

As our protagonists learn more about the multiverse, a voice ominously informs us (and Strange) that the "greatest threat to the universe" is Strange himself (or at least a darker version of him that shows up at the end).

Buzz was around that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) will be in this movie but Marvel isn't teasing that yet.

The film releases on May 6, 2022.

Whenever I learn about a movie or series being made on mental health, I cringe because most of them get it wrong.

They are medically inaccurate, overdramatic, unempathetic or all of them together.

But the recently released short film Thank You For Sharing is a refreshing take on mental disorder and hence we list five reasons why you should not miss it.

The end of Spider-Man: Far From Home may have revealed that Quentin Beck's story about the multiverse was a total lie, but that doesn't necessarily mean the multiverse doesn't exist. We're not exactly sure what that means--or how the real multiverse will come into play--but hey, at least we know it's definitely a thing. Probably. Unless it's also a lie in this movie.

Whatever happens to Wanda during WandaVision will directly play into her role in Multiverse Of Madness--but it's worth noting that Wanda is the only part of that combo who was announced for the movie. Vision and Paul Bettany were not. So that may or may not bode well for Vision's post-WandaVision status quo.

Doctor Strange is played with deadpan theatrical relish by Benedict Cumberbatch; and though his intellectual glamour never quite reaches Sherlockian heights, it’s a much more enjoyable and satisfying character for him than John Harrison, the shady figure from Star Trek Into Darkness. Strange is a man of science who overcomes his foolish egotism and rationalism to become champion-warrior of the astral plane. He exchanges a neurosurgeon’s scrubs for a velvety neo-Edwardian uniform with an occult medallion and high pointy collars, accessorised with a fierce goatee, like a glam rock vocalist who yearns to do a magic act in Vegas. Spirit and flesh are in harmony. His superhero name is the same as his civilian name. Only a Dawkinsian rationalist will appreciate the poignancy of this escapist fantasy.

This is the mysterious Ancient One, played with shaven-headed charismatic blankness by Tilda Swinton; she is attended by her other students Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and Wong (Benedict Wong). But it soon becomes clear, once he has learned to get over himself, that Strange’s destiny is far greater than returning to boring old surgery. He is a natural master, and he must join the Ancient One in the battle against her other student, Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen), who has gone over to the dark side.

Spider-Man: No Way Home brought the concept of the multiverse to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and now it is expected that the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be all about the multiverse, as the title of the film suggests.

“It’s all on account of a domino effect going on with production and filmmakers,” according to Deadline. “Some titles are contending with finishing scenarios while others are in production. This is how Disney is solving it, and when you come to think of it, most of the dates were already reserved by the studio for Marvel fare; they’re just moving titles from one slot to the next.”

After Spider-Man: No Way Home cracked open the multiverse, fans began theorising about what comes next. The movie also confirmed that some set photo leaks are legit (leaks ahead of the film teased the possibility of more than one Spidey). Even if Tom Cruise doesn't show up as Iron Man, it does open up fans to the possibility of accepting Robert Downey Jr.'s replacement.

The film is a sequel to Scott Derrickson’s 2016 film, which grossed more than $677 million worldwide and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects. This time, Sam Raimi directs the sequel, and the cast includes Elizabeth Olsen returning as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Benedict Wong as Sorcerer Supreme Wong, Rachel McAdams as Dr. Christine Palmer, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, and Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez.
